I do because I am
I am healthy so I have healthy thoughts
I am healthy so I have healthy habits
I am healthy so I eat healthy foods
I am healthy so I have a healthy lifestyle
Introduction
I love the poetic verse above because it highlights the major role that our thinking has on our health. The impact of our thinking on our general health is perhaps least well known by the general public. During my conventional medical training there was little, if any, focus on it. During my integrative medicine training I was introduced to a concept called Mind-Body Medicine. This term encompasses the use of practices such as meditation, breathing techniques, tai chi, or yoga that uses the interactions between the mind, body, and behavior to promote health. This course will not focus on these treatment modalities. Instead, this course will highlight the fundamental role that our subconscious mind: [beliefs] and our conscious minds: [thoughts] have on our approach to everything, including mental responses to stressful events, diet, lifestyle, and consequently our overall health and wellness.
Course Objectives
- To understand the relationship between spirit, soul and body.
- To understand the components of the soul,
- To understand the parts of the mind and their roles.
- To understand how new habits are formed.
