We expend too much energy trying to get a dead man to behave
We ought rather to abandon our efforts and just leave him in the grave
Flesh and blood cannot please God
So abandon it and cleave to your savior and Lord
For he that is born of the Spirit cannot sin
My friend there is no other way to win.
What exactly am I saying? you ask
In penning this poem what was your task?
It was to remind you of a salient truth
A truth that I wish I had apprehended earlier in my youth.
Living the Christian life is impossible for man
That Christ is the only One who can I now understand
So own that your old man was annihilated in His crucifixion
Own too that the new man you are in Him was created in His Resurrection.
Now you exist solely and only in Him
Live with the consciousness of the one who dwells within.
So let all performance-based striving cease
Rest in Him and let His glory be released
