We have dealt with Presence: “Never Alone” and Provision: He’s Already Provided. Let us now deal with the final “P”: Power. This relates to any discussion of fear because power is “the ability or capacity to act or do something effectively.” We experience fear and its cousin anxiety when we anticipate a mismatch between our power or capacity and whatever challenge or threat we encounter. I could have easily included “power” as part of our inheritance, but it warrants individual attention. It is appropriate to begin with a favorite scripture of mine: Philippians 4:13
I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] [Philippians 4:13 - Amplified Bible].
Wow. The phrase “ready for anything and equal to anything” speaks to limitlessness, which is the title of this topic. I particularly like the Mirror Study Bible’s rendering of this verse because it also speaks to the question of identity: one who is in seamless union with God.
13In every situation I am strong in the one who empowers me from within to be who I am [Philippians 4:13 - Mirror Study Bible].
Just prior to giving them His disciples the great commission, after which He ascended:
18..Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth [Matt. 28:18 - King James Version].
As joint heirs with Christ and in union with Him, we have access to that power. Ephesians 3:20 is another familiar verse that speaks to the subject at hand.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us [Ephesians 3:20 - King James Version].
The Passion translation’s rendering of the said verse is especially colorful and emphatic:
“Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you” [Ephesians 3:20 - The Passion Translation].
Let us think this through. The same Spirit that brooded over the waters when the earth was without form and void and brought transformation when God said, “Let there be,” is now resident in us. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11) resides in us. He was poured out on all flesh as Joel prophesied, and God has said, “Let there be” offspring created in our image and likeness who know their God and so know themselves. They will be strong and do exploits (Daniel 11:32) because My power is resident in them. They will not know fear. They will know Me, the limitless One, so they will know themselves. They will be mature people who bear not only My name but My nature because I have written it on their hearts. Through the crucible of life’s challenges, they have learned to obey, agree, and delight in Me. And so when faced with challenges, they take the high road, knowing that My Presence, Provision, and Power are within and among them.
