Module One Assignment – My Child, My Guide Journal

The goal of the Module One assignment is to help parents move from a theoretical knowledge of autism to a practical, empowered mindset. It is a gentle, reflective activity designed to shift focus from the diagnosis to your child’s unique personality.

Task: For one week, keep a simple notebook or a note on your phone. Instead of focusing on challenges, write down one or two things each day that make your child uniquely them.

 Examples:

  • Strengths & Joys: What makes them laugh? What is their special interest? When are they at their calmest or most joyful?
  • Communication & Sensory Cues: How do they communicate without words? What sounds, textures, or sights do they love or hate?
  • Surprising Moments: What was one thing they did today that surprised or delighted you?

Why this helps: This practice reinforces the core idea that your child is still the same incredible person and that you are the best person to understand their unique roadmap.
